A rare and highly distinctive Ordu Kocakarı kilim, with a striking all-over composition of bold geometric motifs in deep burgundy, purple, orange, soft aqua and ivory on a dark ground. Subtle variations within each motif give it a strong handmade character.

The Kocakarı kilim

Ordu, on Turkey's Black Sea coast, has a lesser-known village weaving tradition. Known locally as a Kocakarı Kilimi, this piece was selected for its traditional character, unusual design and craftsmanship, and can be appreciated as a true example of Anatolian textile heritage.

At 200 × 223 cm, its generous, almost square size suits a living room, under a round dining table or a large bedroom.

Care
