A soft, airy vintage Balıkesir cicim kilim with a pale sky-blue and ivory field crossed by a lattice of stepped brick-red diamonds and fine dotted lines in charcoal and rose. Narrow borders in gold, red and ivory frame the design, finished with deep chocolate-brown plain-woven ends.

The Balıkesir kilim tradition

Balıkesir in north-western Turkey has a long tradition of village and Yörük weaving. Its cicim kilims are known for raised, finely brocaded motifs worked over a flatweave base, lattice and medallion layouts and naturally aged colour.
