A beautifully aged Kepsut cicim kilim whose colours have softened over seven decades into a calm palette of oatmeal, sage, dusty lilac, faded indigo and raspberry. Loosely drawn medallions, stepped hooks and small chequered motifs float across the field, framed by a narrow border and charcoal end panels with small tree motifs.

The Kepsut kilim tradition

Kepsut is a small district of Balıkesir in north-western Turkey, home to Yörük and village weavers. Its cicim kilims are known for dense, raised brocade over a flatweave base and freely drawn motifs passed down through generations.

Where it works

At 185 × 328 cm, this large kilim suits a living room seating area, a long dining table or the foot of a king bed. Its muted, washed palette sits naturally in Japandi, wabi-sabi, Scandinavian and organic modern interiors.

Care

Vacuum regularly without the beater bar, rotate every few months for even wear, and blot spills straight away with a damp cloth. For deep cleaning, we recommend a professional rug cleaner.
