The Hereke design tradition

Hereke, a small town on the Gulf of İzmit, became famous in the 19th century when an imperial workshop was founded there to weave carpets for the Ottoman palaces. Hereke designs are known for refined floral patterns, elegant borders and court-inspired details, and remain one of the most admired styles in Turkish rug-making.
