A finely worked vintage Balıkesir cicim kilim with rows of hexagonal medallions in charcoal and soft grey-blue, each holding a stepped star motif in red, coral, gold and ivory. They sit on a warm rose-pink field covered in small brocaded dots and lattice details, framed by a red zig-zag border and a narrow multicolour end band.

The Balıkesir kilim tradition

Balıkesir in north-western Turkey has a long tradition of village and Yörük weaving. Its cicim kilims are known for raised, finely brocaded motifs worked over a flatweave base, banded or medallion layouts and warm, lively colour.
