A richly decorated vintage cicim runner with large stepped diamonds in deep green, coral red and indigo, outlined by bold ivory zig-zag bands. The surface is covered in small cross motifs in yellow, orange, pink and teal, and each end has a charcoal band with tribal symbols and an orange zig-zag border, finished with a fringe.

The Balıkesir kilim tradition

Balıkesir in north-western Turkey is home to Yörük and village weavers known for their cicim work, where coloured wool is wrapped into the flatweave to create raised, embroidered-looking motifs. Their pieces are dense, durable and full of colour.

Where it works

At 80 × 300 cm, this runner suits a long hallway, a galley kitchen or the side of a bed. Used as a pair, the two runners look striking either side of a bed, along a long corridor or laid side by side as a larger piece.

Care

Vacuum regularly without the beater bar, rotate every few months for even wear, and blot spills straight away with a damp cloth. For deep cleaning, we recommend a professional rug cleaner.
